Functional Light Sculptures

Texture, fiber, colour, shape, light….

I love making these soft light spherical sculptures. They are very popular - especially during the winter holidays.

They are made out of different types of fibres and glue over a wooden base with wire and led lights powered by batteries.

These are photos of a project which I did a few years ago. I wanted to transform my Suzuki GSXR 750 into a personal expression of colour and speed as well as keep the original body parts pristine so I bought a second hand set and painted the seperate parts with an elaborate and pain staking process which took much longer than I originally anticipated! First I sanded each part, painted the base colour, sanded, painted several layers and hues of blue, sanded, painted the top layer of black and then finally got to the part of the original idea where I wanted it to look like the speed of the bike had made the wind wear out the black layer in such a way that it looked even faster 🙂. Then painted (and sanded!) a few layers of transparent top coat. When I was done I never ever wanted to sand again! I am pleased with the result and although the bike has already moved on to another owner, I still have the separate parts....
